My name is Cody Thorpe and I am kinesiologist working at Deep Physio! Recently I have been working with a client who is an avid skier and came to me complaining that the left side of their low back and hips are always very sore after a long day of skiing.
When I asked her to get into her skiing position I noticed that her right foot was very pronate and her right knee was very medically rotated. I also noticed that her left foot was very supinated and that most of her body weight was loaded over that left side.
When I inquired about previous injuries she stated that her right McL was previously torn. Using the functionally movement screen I gave her a couple of corrective exercises to help improve her skiing posture.
The first corrective exercise is a half kneeling drill designed to encourage dorsi flexion in a good arch while abd the right hip instead of medically collapsing.
Next I gave her squat with fmt to help her load more usually between her hips.
Finally I finished off with a single leg hip hinge fmt to promote proper foot and hip position while loading into her ski position.
After the corrective exercises I decided to lock in this new pattern with a spiral chain in order to give her proper feedback from her foot all the way up to her hip. Once the tape was on I rechecked her ski position and she had good neutral arches bilaterally and loaded equally between both hips!
